Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has wished the Pakistan cricket team players “all the best” in their future endeavours as the national side participated in the pre-season camp at the military academy in Kakul ahead of the T20 World Cup.

He said this while talking to them at Army House Rawalpindi on Monday, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said the COAS hosted an iftar dinner for the national side.

Green Shirts underwent and concluded 11-day physical training at the Army School of Physical Training camp in Kakul, Abbottabad.

As many as 29 elite cricketers attended the pre-season camp, with the training and drills designed by Pakistan Army experts and strategists.

According to the PCB, the focus was on team building aimed to enhance the physical and mental strength of the players. The players underwent a comprehensive training regime tailored to “elevate their fitness levels, agility, leadership, strategic thinking and overall performance on the field.”

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with PCB officials, also attended the Iftar.

The cricketers thanked the army chief for the “excellent training” provided to them at Kakul and the “role the army plays in supporting the games in Pakistan.”

Pakistan would be playing against New Zealand and Ireland before the T20 World Cup in June. Babar recently got the captaincy back after the board removed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the skipper in the shortest format of the game.

The Twenty20 showpiece, which starts on June 1, is being jointly staged by the United States and the West Indies.

It will be the first major international cricket tournament played in the US, with a sell-out crowd expected for the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at a temporary 34,000-seat venue in Long Island, New York.

The ticket for the Pakistan-India match has been priced at more than $50,000 (PKR13.91 million), according to USA Today.

While the match ticket started at $6 in the official sales, with the most expensive premium ticket for $400, the tickets have been placed on resale websites, such as StubHub and SeatGeek.
