Kamran Khan, a PTI worker from Peshawar, has been missing for three days, sparking outrage and criticism towards the party leadership for their perceived silence on the matter. Social media has become a platform for frustrated PTI supporters, who are demanding answers and action from their leaders.

Kamran’s wife filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Faqirabad police station on March 30th, stating that he was abducted by “unknown persons” while returning home from work. His last phone call was at 4:55 pm, after which his phone was switched off.

PTI supporters have taken to social media to raise awareness about Kamran’s disappearance, questioning the safety of party workers even under a PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They highlight the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances and demand answers from the authorities.

Shandana Gulzar Khan, a PTI MNA from Peshawar, shared a message on social media alleging that Kamran was taken by a black Prado from Eidgah Charsadda Road at 5:13 pm and was last tracked near Qila Bala Hisar at 5:33 pm before his phone went dead.

Despite reassurances from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur that he is personally following the case and that Kamran will return home soon, there has been no progress in the investigation. Party spokesperson Raoof Hassan was also asked about the matter in a recent press conference, but declined to give a clear answer.

Frustrated with the lack of action, Kamran’s wife approached the Peshawar High Court, seeking justice. Justice Ateeq Shah instructed the Additional Advocate General to investigate the matter and contact not only the relevant SHO but also the Inspector General of Police to ensure a thorough investigation.

MNA Sher Ali Arbab, who accompanied Kamran’s wife to the court, claimed that Kamran had recently questioned a significant appointment on Twitter, possibly hinting at a motive for his disappearance. He assured that the government is taking the matter seriously and that all relevant agencies are working towards Kamran’s recovery.

He added that departments such as the CTD are slowly falling into place in the new government, causing cases such as this to take some time.

Kamran’s wife, speaking to Aaj News, expressed her anguish and pleaded for her husband’s safe return. She emphasized that he had committed no crime and questioned the justification for his abduction.

While PTI supporters accuse the party leadership of neglecting the case, the official PTI Twitter account shared a copy of the FIR on May 1st, stating that the Peshawar leadership is actively following the case. However, an interview with Kamran’s wife, where she expresses disappointment at the lack of contact from the KP government, has gone viral, further fueling the frustration among party workers.

Who is Kamran

The FIR filed by Kamran Khan’s wife indicates that Kamran Khan works as a representative in a medical laboratory in Peshawar.

The FIR also states that Kamran’s wife came from the village, and on the day of her disappearance, Kamran made a final phone call to his wife at 4:55 PM, saying that she should go home. The FIR included the message from his wife, stating that Kamran said, “You go home because I came from the village. I will come.”

Kamran’s Twitter timeline is not much different from other hardline PTI workers.

How is the PTI following the case?

Irfan Salim from the PTI is monitoring Kamran’s disappearance case. Today, Irfan Salim informed the news that if there are any objections to Kamran’s tweets, action can be taken against him under the PICA law, but forced disappearances are never acceptable.

He expressed hope that the Chief Minister himself is monitoring the case, so Kamran’s recovery will be possible in a day or two.

Although party workers complain about ignoring this matter, the official PTI Twitter account shared a copy of the FIR regarding Kamran Khan’s disappearance on May 1, saying, “The FIR for this incident has been registered, and the Tehreek-e-Insaf Peshawar is following the case.”

However, an interview with Kamran Khan’s wife is also going viral, in which she says that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has not contacted her regarding the search for her husband.

Regarding the workers’ reaction, Irfan Salim said that the party has been in contact with their family since Kamran’s disappearance and is supporting them in legal battles, apart from communication with government institutions at the administrative level.

He mentioned that the option of resorting to worker resistance is being considered, but at the moment, the path of wisdom is necessary because Kamran’s safe recovery is essential.
