The PML-N has emerged as the single largest political party in the race for the National Assembly seats as the country is all set to see a Pakistan Democratic Movement redux led by a multi-party confab.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan results, the PML-N was declared victorious on 75 general seats. The tally rose to 108 after nine independent candidates joined the party and it got 24 reserved seats – four for minorities and 20 for women – days after the February 8 general elections.

Moreover, the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians won 54 NA seats. It merits here to mention that independent candidates have not joined the PPPP.

But the number of seats with the party increased to 68 after the allotment of 14 reserved seats, two for minorities and 12 for women.

Party position

The MQM-P won a total of 22 NA seats – including 17 general and five reserved seats. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam secured eight seats – including six general and two reserved seats.

As many as 81 PTI backed independent candidates joined the Sunni Ittehad Council after the two parties signed an agreement to secure the reserved seats. But the matter related to the allocation of such seats was still pending before the ECP.

The data shows that the country’s top electoral authority allotted 20 reserved seats for women – out of the total 32 – in Punjab. The decision on the remaining 12 is still pending.
