PPP, PMLN talks end without significant results

Committees nominated by the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz met for the fifth time on Monday, only to leave without significant agreement.

The two sides had two separate sittings at Ishaq Dar’s residence in Islamabad’s minister’s enclave.

The PPP delegation includes Qamar Zaman Kaira, Murad Ali Shah and Nadeem Afzal Chan.

Contrary to expectations, the two sides failed to arrive at any significant agreement and called it a day.

Another round of talks is now scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

PMLN had emerged as the largest group in the National Assembly after independents, with 75 seats. The PPP stood third with 54 seats.

The PPP has alread made it clear that it will not ask for ministries or field a cnadidate for prime minister. However, Bilawal Bhutto said on Sunday that Asif Zardari would be the candidate for president.

Talks between MQM and PMLN

A Muttahida Qaumi Movement delegation consisting of Kamran Tessori, Farooq Sattar and Musafa Kamal called on Ishaq Dar at his residence as well.

According to a statement, the MQM asked PMLN for constitutional amendments it wished to see. The party also offered suggestions about the formation of government.

MQM said that it has stressed the devolution of powers to grassroot level so that the lives of ordinary citizens can be improved.

The two sides also agreed to keep engaging over government formation in coming days.
