A crowd of angry protestors surrounded the house of a newly-elected member of the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday, after he announced he was joining the Pakistan Peoples Party.

Ijaz Swati was elected as an MPA from PS-88 in Karachi as an independent-backed candidate in the general election. He recently released a video announcing that he would join the PPP in the assembly.

In the video he said that he had taken the decision for the welfare of the people of his constituency.

However, his voters did not receive the news well and a large crowd gathered outside his house, raising slogans against his change of allegiance.

The protestors said that Swati had ‘sold their mandate’ by switiching camps.

With Swati’s inclusion, PPP’s strength in the Sindh Assembly will grow to 86. Another independent candidate, Mumtaz Jakhrani has already joined the party.
