Vidya Balan was told accepting ‘Dirty Picture’ role would ruin her career
Bollywood actress Vidya Balan recalled her time working in the 2011 film ‘The Dirty Picture’, saying that at that time people used to tell her that working in it would ruin your career.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 54th IIFA Awards ceremony in Goa, Vidya Balan said, “I was very excited to play the role of Silk Smitha.
“When Milan Luthria came to me, I felt like he didn’t come to the wrong door because I wasn’t sure if anyone would offer me the role.
The actress further said that it was her passion to do the role that people were not imagining that I would, but I knew that I could and I immediately said yes.
Directed by Milan Luthria, the film was inspired by the late South Indian actress Silk Smitha, who rose to fame in a very short time due to her extraordinarily attractive personality and beauty and mysteriously died in 1996 at the age of just 35.
To this end, Vidya stated that there’s no point in being labeled as “Miss Goody Two Shoes” because she has only done a few films and she’s not attempting something different after decades in the industry. This, she emphasized, is why she is an actor.
The Dirty Picture was a biographical musical drama based on the life of Silk Smitha. The film, which Milan Luthria directed, was distributed in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi worldwide.
In addition to Vidya, the cast included Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Tusshar Kapoor. Vidya’s portrayal earned praise from critics and garnered accolades.
