Australia won by eight wickets against Bangladesh in their final World Cup pool stage clash with Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Saturday.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Bangladesh side, without skipper Sakib Al-Hassan, managed to put a total of 306 runs on the board.

Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for his side. He made 74 off 79 deliveries.

In response, Aussies chased target in 45 overs. Davide Warner hit a fifty, however, it was the partnership of Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith that the Tigers were not able to break.

Marsh was not out on 177 and lead his side to the victory.

“It is great to take the winning feeling into the semis,” Australian skipper Pat Cummins said.

“It feels good to win seven in a row and the team is on a high and would looking to go all the way.”

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said that his side was 40 to 50 runs short of the target. He admitted that they have to improve their bowling.

Shanto said they would improve their performances and rectify their mistakes.

Five-times champions Australia are on a six-match winning run and have already qualified for the semi-finals, where they will take on South Africa in Kolkata on Nov. 16.

Glenn Maxwell, who overcame cramps to score an outrageous double-century in their last game against Afghanistan to secure a victory and his team’s progress to the knockouts, was rested for the Bangladesh game along with seamer Mitchell Starc.

Batsman Steve Smith returned to the team after missing the last match due to a bout of vertigo, while paceman Sean Abbott was included in the starting side.

Bangladesh, who are seeking a win to cement their spot in the top eight and secure 2025 Champions Trophy qualification, made three changes to their starting eleven.
