Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday held a sit-in before the Sindh Governor’s House against the escalating prices of petrol, electricity, and inflation.

“All the political parties are busy in trying to delay elections and to grab power instead of taking measures to provide relief to the masses,” JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said during the sit-in.

The ruling elite that has been in power for the past seven decades has been imposed on the country with the backing of US and Western powers, he added.

“This elite has put us in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. Then they say that we did not have other option than accepting the IMF conditions,” Rehman said.

According to him, the IMF has asked the government to impose taxes on the elites and provide relief to the poor, however, the governments have given a free hand to the rich as they are always part of government.

He critcised the past governments’ agreements with the independent power producers, saying the consumers were forced to pay charges to IPPs whether they consume electricity or not.

The JI leader vowed to guide the movement ahead seeking for cancellation of the K-Electric licence.

During his address, the JI Karachi chief also praised Hamas for launching a successful attack on Israel.

“The Muslim rulers of the past gave them refuge, but they are now biting the same hand which rescued them from oppressors,” he added.

For Rehman, the Zionists are occupying the US, West, and all the global economic institutions, that make the world’s economic policies.

He rejected the two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, saying that there are no two countries as the region is all Palestine.
