The first consignment of two trucks from China have passed through Torkham border on their way to Central Asia under the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) agreement.

The director of the transit trade confirmed that the Chinese trucks were now en-route to Central Asia after clearing the border.

Officials have epxressed hope that the trade will increase in the coming days.

The TIR is an international agreement that provides a mechanism for safe and streamlined trade.

A key part of the TIR is a reduction in additional customs expenses during cross-border transportation.

The TIR was ratified by Pakistan in 2015 and China in 2016.
