Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Shoaib Shaheen said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had been taken to Attock Jail to deny the facilities that he deserved.

He added that the there were reservations regarding the ‘prejudiced’ verdict, but even that decision had called for Imran to be kept in Adiala jail which was the only jail near Islamabad.

Speaking to Asma Shirazi in Faisla Aap Ka Shaheen said that it was Imran’s right to be kept in a clean cell which did not have insects and rainwater seeping into it. He added that despite the problems, Imran was standing like a rock for ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’.

He also said the Council of Common Interests that had approved Census 2023 was an illegal body as it contained two chief ministers who were not elected.

Regarding, the treatment of Khan in Attock jail, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s Khurram Dastgir said that the PTI chief’s own government had amended jail rules to make sure that higher category jails would not be given to politicians.

He also referred to Imran’s speech in Wahington where he had spoken about taking away facilities from Nawaz Sharif in jail. He also added that Khan had ‘personally monitored’ the treatment being given to PML-N leaders in jail.

However, he also said that there was no instruction from the federal government to mistreat Imran in jail and he could ask the court for better policies.

Regarding the Toshakhana gifts allegedly retained by leaders of the PMLN, Dastgir said that a new example had been set by Imran’s punishment. He also said that the current government had changed the system altogether by displaying all gifts publicly in the PM house.

Naz Baloch questioned how a customised watch gifted by the Saudi crown prince had made its way into the hands of Farah Gogi and had been sold in UAE. She added that after taking billions in profit, a toekn amount had been submitted as its price.

She added that Imran’s rhetoric was manifesting itself as karma today after his speeches about taking away facilities from political prisoners and tall claims of establishing justice for everyone.

Imran still has right of appeal

Dastgir said that despite Imran’s conviction there was a key difference between his case and that of Nawaz. He said that Imran had been sentenced by a trial court and still had multiple options to file appeal.

He also said that Nawaz had been disqualified for salary that was never taken, while the watch that Imran had sold was a concrete reality.

Shaheen replied that if a person had sold any thing after buying it, no questions could be asked. He added that the Toshakhana case was a ‘fraud’.

Shaheen replied that the Establishment had to get Imran Khan out of the picture and they did by ‘using courts’.

When Dastgir said that Imran had appeared in courts 175 times while Imran had appeared a mere three times in the Toshakhana case, Shaheen replied that Imran had been represented at every hearing.

Shaheen also said that Khan had not been given the right to defend himself and his witnesses had been summarily rejected by the court.

Will elections take place on time

PPP’s Naz Baloch said that her party was fully prepared to go into elections immediately and said that the party’s leadership believed that there should be no pauses in democracy.

She added that the CCI had been assured that the Election Commission would do its best to hold elections on time.

Khurram Dastgir also said that the PMLN was also ready to go into elections. He added that elections had nothing to do with the caretaker government and were entirely the responsibility of the ECP. However, he expressed hope that the elections would be held on time.
