Senior politician Jahangir Khan Tareen announced the formation of a new political party — Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party on Thursday.

The formal announcement was made during a press conference held in Lahore. During the announcement, Tareen was flanked by some renowned faces, who were part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Most of them left the party after the May 9 riots, which were prompted by the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Al Qadir Trust case.

So, what to expect from the new political power or what they have to offer for the people of Pakistan?

Coordinator to Prime Minister of Commerce and Industries Rana Ihsan Afzal Khan, while speaking at Aaj TV show Faisla Aap ka said that the party is new in the country’s political landscape.

“It may secure some seats in the upcoming elections. But the next elections will be more of a test for the newly formed party.”

On June 7, about 100 former PTI members of the national and provincial assemblies joined Jahangir Tareen and expressed their full confidence in his leadership.

Tareen, who has been disqualified for life from the Supreme Court, has become active following the May 9 riots and the fallout from it.

Several PTI deserters, including Murad Raas, Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan, Fayyazul Hasan Chohan, Hashim Dogar, Ali Zaidi, Imran Ismael, Jay Prakash, Aamir Kiani, Fawad Chaudhary, and others have confirmed their full support for Tareen’s party.

Among other politicians who joined the new political party are Abdul Aleem Khan, Awn Chaudhry, and Nauman Langrial.

Moreover, PTI’s “Hashim Dogar group” members, including Raja Yawar Kamal, Mamoon Tarar, and Rai Aslam, also joined Tareen’s political camp.

Sajjad Bukhari, Tehseen Gardezi, and Jahanzeb Warn have already joined Tareen’s party.
