Islamabad High Court ordered the secretary interior, the inspector general of police and director general of rangers to appear in person on Monday over the disappearance of Shahzad Akbar’s brother.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani said that if the officials did not appear in court, summons would be issued to the interior minister and if needed, to the Prime Minister.

Shahzad Akbar, former aide to Imran Khan on accountability, had filed a complaint in court that his brother had been ‘picked up’ by unknown men from his Islamabad home.

Justice Kiyani asked teh DIG operations about the identity of the men since they did not belong either to the Counter Terrorism Department or the the rangers. When the DIG requested more time to investigate the identity of the men, Justice Kiyani said there would be consequences if it was proven that the vehicles did indeed belong to the rangers or CTD.

“It is a matter of shame if so many people roam around in CTD and ranger uniforms,” Justice Kiyani remarked. He added that if ranger’s uniforms were being used by someone else, the responsibility lay with the DG.

He also chided the DIG over the fact that the city was full of safe city cameras and personal recordings of people were being uploaded but no criminals were being caught. He also asked why an FIR had not been filed yet.

“Everyone will have to save their department’s uniform themself,” he remarked.

He then ordered the interior secretary, IG and DG Rangers to appear in person along with a copy of the FIR.
