Paulo Coelho has an opinion on being mentioned by Maryam Nawaz

Maryam has been trolled relentlessly for her choice of books

The internet did not receive Maryam Nawaz’s reading lists kindly, but she did manage to hear a voice of support for one of her mistakes.

In a recent interview, the PML-N chief organiser said she likes reading fiction based on history. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is one of her favourite books.

The internet, with its multitudes of opinions, did not think that this book (or The Forty Rules of Love which Maryam also mentioned) is good enough to be brag about. That is a debate for a different day, and one that probably will never be settled.

Somehow, the internet started roasting Maryam over the fact that she said Coedo instead of Coelho.

Of all things, it was a Punjabi iteration of the trolling that wound its way to the actual author, Mr Coelho himself.

Lo g Paulo “Coedo” nawan author aa gya maidan wich,” a user Nauman Sharjeel wrote. (Here we go, a new author Paulo “Coedo has arrived.)

But Coelho, thinks the criticism is unnecessary.

“I make mistakes very often in pronunciation of foreign names, so don’t be critical,” Coelho wrote.

It is worth remembering, that Coelho is Brazilian, and he does not even write in English. He writes everything in Portugese which is then translated for the world. His works have been translated in 88 languages and have sold 320 books across the globe.

So if you’re wondering how to pronounce Paulo Coelho’s name, well, you can pronounce it any way you want. The man himself doesn’t seem too touchy about it.
