Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Khan Swati had a public breakdown during a press conference in Lahore Saturday while talking about a video of intimate moments that was sent to his wife’s cell phone from an “unknown” number.

An emotional Swati said that the video showed intimate moments between him and his wife. After receiving the video, his family - including wife, daughter-in-law and granddaughters - left Pakistan.

Swati said that he was in Lahore at around nine o’clock last night when he received a call from his wife in Islamabad who was hysterical.

He said he repeatedly asked his wife why she was screaming, but all he heard were shrieks and screams. His daughte then took the phone, with Swati asking her to inquire what was the matter.

“She told me that her mother had received a video from an unknown number and I am in it,” he continued before breaking down.

“I can’t say more.”

Azam Swati, who was detained by the FIA ​​last month following a tweet critical of the army chief, has previously accused state institutions of torture, including stripping and beating him in front of granddaughters.

In his press conference on Saturday, Azam Swati burst into tears while talking about the video. The video, which has also been shared on WhatsApp groups, shows a couple during intimate moments. It later then shifts to a scene from a night club, with the screent text stating “owner of houses of vulgarity/debauchery in Islamabad”.

Narrating the conversation between him and his daughter, Swati said that he told his daughter to speak to her mother. “Does you mother not know that I go to sleep at 9pm and and get up at 3am to perform Tahajjud (night prayer).

“I have spent all my life with her. Does she not know that a few days ago, on the morning of October 13th, when these criminals took me away, they made a video of me,” he narrated, referring to the incident of his arrest in the middle of the night.

“Nowadays it is not difficult to doctor videos and create fakes one,” he told the media while talking about his conversation with his daughter. “But she kept crying and sobbing inconsolably.

“Daddy this ins’t someone else,” said Swati about what his daughter told her in response and broke down into tears before completing the sentence with what his daughter said to him: “It’s you and mom.”

In the press conference, the PTI senator also said where the said video was recorded, while all but accusing Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani of collusion.

Addressing the Senate chairman, Swati said, “You call my wife chachi (aunt). I’m sure you are from a respectable family and have understanding of codes of honour.”

He continued that Sanjrani arranged for Swati and his wife to stay at the judicial lodges of the Supreme Court in Quetta. “You told me that no supreme court judge was in town which is why I should stay there.”

Swati said that Sanjrani is close the Establishment, while holding state institutions responsible for the secretly-filmed video, which he said was recorded as they didn’t have anything to hold over him. “There were no file of my corruption or any secret videos.”

He suggested that the rot led all the way to the top while naming the head of a key state institution over the video.

Swati said that Rana Sanaullah and two officers would be responsible if he was killed.

Following the emotional press conference, PTI chief Imran Khan tweeted an apology to Swati’s wife on behalf of the nation.

“What has happened to Azam Swati at the hands of the State has been a blatant violation of all these values - from being stripped naked to custodial torture,” he said in another tweet.
