The standoff in Pakistan has pitted the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf not only against the PDM-led coalition government but also the country’s armed forces, with Imran not mincing words in his criticism of what many have claimed to be his erstwhile benefactors.

In a recent interview with BBC Urdu’s Tarub Asghar, the popular leader termed Thursday’s joint [press conference][1] by ISI chief Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum and Pakistan Army spokesperson Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar as foolish.

Imran said that the press conference was replete with lies and half truths. “Things have been taken out of context that we offered the extension. But did they say which side made the offer? What was the context of the conversation? If they tell the whole story, it will be very embarrassing for them all.”

In his speech before the long march, Imran Khan had criticized Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI chief General Nadeem Anjum by name. He also demanded the removal of two ISI officers from their posts who he said were involved in the [custodial torture][2] of PTI Senator Azam Swati.

In the Thursday presser, Pakistan’s spymaster General Anjum remarked, without naming Imran, why would you curry favours in the dark of the night from the army chief and make accusations of treachery in the morning. When asked about the statement, Imran replied: “When they perform well, they will be praised.”

He went on to say that it was childish to assume that if someone is praised, then it follows that person never does anything wrong. “You praise your children when they

According to BBC, when Imran Khan was referred to DGISI’s statement during the interview, “If your chief is a traitor, then why do you praise him and why do you meet him in the dark of night?” To this, Imran Khan replied that ‘Where they do good things, we will praise them.’

It is a matter of children that if we praise you, you are always good. You also praise your children but criticize them when they fail to do so. It was actually a very foolish press conference.“

He added that the PTI won the 2018 election on its own and no one facilitated the victory.
