Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Qasim Suri resigns as deputy speaker of the National Assembly (NA) ahead of the no-confidence motion against him, which was scheduled to be held on Saturday (April 16).

The NA Secretariat received the resignation but the final decision related to the resignation's approval will be taken by the Lower House of the Parliament's new Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf - who has been elected unopposed and is likely to take oath during the session scheduled for April 16.

The schedule for the election of a new deputy speaker will also be issued.

Suri, on Wednesday, attempted to delay the sitting of the house from April 16 to 22 by using powers handed to him after the resignation of Asad Qaiser but the session will take place today as per schedule.

On Wednesday, 123 PTI MNAs offered their resignations to the former deputy speaker.
