Quratulain Balouch makes much-awaited Coke Studio comeback with “Thagyan”
Coke Studio on Sunday released its 11th song of the 14th season, Thagyan, featuring singer Quratulain Balouch (QB) and qawwali group Zain Zohaib. The Punjabi qawwali seems like a comfortable return to the previous seasons of the musical franchise.
Written by Zain Zohaib the song protests against the tricky nature of love.
According to Associate Music Producer Zain Ali, “The aim was to create a song which can be enjoyed by Gen Z as much as someone who listens to qawwali would like it.”
The song has shades of traditional qawwali, with soul and hip hop carefully weaved in between, providing the perfect backdrop for QB's raspy vocals and Zain Zohaib’s energetic performance.
The set reflects the essence of the song with traditional qawwali elements fused with those of the new age such as the neo-noir lighting. Social media users can’t get enough of the song.
“I think I have found my new obsession,” said one user.
Music enthusiasts also appreciated the mix of the classical and modern music genres.
