ISLAMABAD. The Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad on Monday further extended the physical remand of media personality, Mohsin Baig, for two days at the request of the federal capital’s police and sought the accused's medical report from the Polytechnic Hospital medical superintendent.

The Federal Investigation Agency on February 16 raided Baig's residence in Islamabad and arrested him after he shot at and roughed up members of the raiding team. The raid was conducted following a complaint lodged by communications Minister Murad Saeed who contended that his reputation was "tarnished" by Baig during a TV show.

At the outset of the proceedings presided over by ATC judge Muhammad Ali Warraich, the Islamabad police presented Baig in the court after the completion of his three-day physical remand.

Police requested the court for another extension.

Baig’s lawyer Latif Khosa opposed the request and said: “Police have misused the judicial remand and they have looted everything. For the last three days, police have beleaguered the [Baig’s] house and the district commissioner, IG police, and SSP were in the house on Sunday.”

The court asked the police why another remand was being sought. The public prosecutor said they wanted to conduct a police polygraphic test and a few videos have to be recovered from the accused. To this, the judge asked the reasons for such a test by police and asked for an update about the three-day physical remand, which was granted by the same court on February 18. The prosecutor replied that such an exam was needed for matching the videos.

“For the last six days Mohsin Baig is in your custody, what is your progress,” the judge asked.

“We could not recover the videos in the last six days,” the public prosecutor said.

The lawyers requested the court to allow them to meet Mohsin Baig.

“He [Mohsin Baig] is not a terrorist,” judge Warraich said, adding that the lawyer can meet the accused in the jail. The court asked the lawyer to file an appeal and it would look into it.

The judge then asked Baig about any video being held in his possession. The accused replied in the negative and advised the police to take media cameras if they want to. “They changed my medical report four times.”

Baig’s lawyer Khosa said that the police so far have not submitted his client’s medical report and requested the court to summon it. Judge Warraich asked the complainant to file an appeal for such a request in this regard. The lawyer requested the court summon a medical report of the media personality

Later, the court remanded Baig on two-day custody of police and summoned the medical superintendent of Polytechnic Hospital with the accused medical report. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 23.
