Pakistan witnesses a slight increase in Covid positivity rate
Pakistan witnessed a slight increase in Covid ratio, with 5.55% rate recorded during the last 24 hours, according to the National Command and Operation Centre data published on Thursday.
For the last five days, the positivity ratio across the country remained under 6% , signalling the Covid monitoring body to ease non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in those districts and cities across the country where the ratio has dropped under 10%.
This led to resumption of academic activities across Punjab with 100% attendance from Wednesday after a decline in Covid cases across the province.
Meanwhile, in a meeting of NCOC held on Tuesday, the Covid monitoring body decided to extend the already enforced coronavirus-induced restrictions in the country till February 21 in cities with over 10% coronavirus positivity ratio.
Out of the 51,677 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 2,870 people tested positive for the virus across the country, while 40 people succumbed to Covid.
Currently, 1,495 people infected with the virus are on critical care.
As the nation-wide vaccination campaign is in full swing, so far the country has inoculated more than 205 million vaccine doses across the country, with at least 94 million people have been fully vaccinated against Covid.
