Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has reiterated that the country must remain vigilant so as to respond befittingly to any misadventure by the adversary.

“Superiority in the modern-day battlefield can only be maintained if we remain alive to contemporary challenges and are prepared to tackle them in line with emerging modern concepts,” the COAS was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The army chief was addressing the participants of the 35th Air War Course. He was visiting the PAF Air War College Institute in Karachi.

“The COAS appreciated the thorough professionalism of the PAF and its enviable achievements,” read the statement. COAS Gen Qamar urged the officers to make consistent efforts to keep abreast with modern developments and maintain cutting edge advantage.

The COAS had also attended the colonel commandant ceremony at the Ordnance Centre, Malir. COAS Gen Qamar installed Major General Syed Shahab Shahid as Colonel Commandant of Ordnance Corps.

The army chief appreciated the corps for their role in war and peace, especially during war against terrorism. A large number of serving and retired officers and soldiers from ordnance corps attended the ceremony.

Earlier on arrival at Karachi, the COAS was accompanied by Commander Karachi Corps Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed.

The military’s media wing had also issued another statement about the fourth and last cycle of the training, which was recently concluded in the tribal districts of Bajaur, Mohmand and Khyber, to the former personnel of khasadar and levies by the Pakistan Army and the FC.

“These individuals will now form part of the regular police force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This programme was part of the government policy under which 20, 000 personnel from former Khasadar and levies of newly-merged districts were imparted training under the supervision of Pakistan Army, the FC,” it read.

The statement added that the training was conducted in different fields – including the use of different weapons, mines and IED detection methods, public dealing, policing, search operations, counter-terrorism operations, and physical fitness.

KP’s Frontier Corps North Inspector General Major General Adil Yamin Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the chief guest at the passing out parade of the last batch from the fourth training cycle in Bajaur district. The parade was attended by families of the personnel and senior civil and military officials.
