Everyone seems to be playing Wordle, a new free online word puzzle which has taken social media by storm -- judging by the way they are posting their scores. But on Thursday, President Arif Alvi found himself in hot water when he tweeted his Wordle for the day and quickly took it down after being slammed for "not working" on country's pressing issues.

Journalist Talat Hussain expressed his disappointment at the president for playing a "silly game" at a time when the country faced so many crises.

According to a story in Aaj on Jan 28: Players have six tries to guess a target five-letter word in Wordle. Every time they make a guess, they are told which letters in their guess are in the word and in the correct position (green), and which letters are in it but in a different position (yellow). Because guesses and targets all have to be real words, some letters are more likely to appear, making some guesses better than others.

Many social media users share their Wordle results every day on their Twitter accounts and while Alvi could have been lauded for engaging in a trendy mind engaging activity, social media users piled rage on him.

User Al Capuccino said "Panjhur chaos, Taliban’s infiltrating, Irani/Raw Proxies at work, Inflation ripping up the country, MachharLake in chaos, Zahir Jaffar and company trying to get away, missing persons cases piling up, PCR test still not affordable and the sitting President is doing F* ALL!!"

This prompted one user to quip that Alvi was better at Wordle than at governing.

Hawkes Bay commented on the president's strategy with his tweet.

Another user made a comparison to Nero and Rome burning.

In his defense, the president's son Awab Alvi told The Tribune that his father has always been a fan of puzzles.
