ECP suspends 150 MPs’ membership for failing to submit asset details

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of as many as 150 lawmakers across the country, including 69 legislators from the Punjab Assembly, for failing to file their statements of assets and liabilities.

According to the ECP notification issued on Monday, three parliamentarians belong to Senate, 36 to the National Assembly, 69 to the Punjab Assembly, 14 to the Sindh Assembly, 21 from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and seven to the Balochistan Assembly.

The handout, which ECP also shared on Twitter, read that these lawmakers “failed” to file their statements of assets and liabilities, as well as those of their spouses and dependents, for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2021. As per Election Rules, 2017, every lawmaker has to submit statements of wealth to the commission every year by December 31.

The three lawmakers, who were suspended from the upper house of parliament, are PML-N leader Dr Musadik Malik, PPP’s Dr Sikandar Mandhro and Balochistan Awami Party’s Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai.

Moreover, the list in the National Assembly category also have names that are cabinet members – including State Information Minister Farrukh Habib, Religious Minister Noorul Haq Qadri, Energy Minister Hammad Azhar, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood and Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Dr Fehmida Mirza.

Other prominent members, who didn’t meet the ECP requirement, are former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, PTI’s Aamir Liaquat Hussain, Ghulam Bibi, PTI’s Rana Mohammad Qasim Noon and MQM’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Other MNAs are Saleh Mohammad, Fakhar Zaman Khan, Sadaqat Ali Khan, Chaudhry Farrukh Altaf, Faizullah, Raja Riaz Ahmad, Ibrahim Khan, Alam Dad Laleka, Samiul Hassan Gillani, Mubeen Ahmed, Javed Iqbal, Shabbir Ali, Sheraz Mehmood, Sardar M Khan Leghari, Abid Hussain Bhayo, Sardar M Bux Khan Mahar, Aslam Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Javaria Zafar, Fauzia Behram, Zille Huma, Shaheen Naz Saifullah, Munawara Bibi Baloch, Shunila Ruth, Jai Prakash and Jamshed Thomas.

Sindh Assembly

The 14 lawmakers from Sindh, who have been suspended as MPAs, are Ali Gohar Khan Mahar, Ali Nawaz Khan Mahar, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Qazi Shams Din, Hari Ram, Mehboob Zaman, Mir Allah Bux Talpur, Hasnain Mirza, Raja Azhar Khan, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Muhammad Younus Soomro, Liaquat Ali Askani, Seema Zia and Nand Kumar Goklani.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The provincial legislators suspended from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly membership are Azizullah Khan, Fazal Hakeem Khan Yousafzai, Sahibzada Sanaullah, Liaquat Ali Khan, Rangez Ahmad, Malik Shaukat Ali, Tufail Anjum, Zahir Shah, Muhammad Idrees, Arbab Waseem Khan, Muhammad Ishtiaq, Fazal Ilahi, Nisar Gul, Zafar Azam, Sher Azam, Hisham Inamullah Khan, Ahmad Kundi, Aghaz Ikramullah Gandapur, Iqbal Mian, Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Naseerullah Khan.

Balochistan Assembly

The membership of seven provincial legislators from Balochistan has also been suspended. They are Mohammad Khan, Mir Sikandar Ali, Saleem Ahmed, Yar Mohammad Rind, Ahmed Nawaz, Mohammad Arif and Mohammad Akbar.
