Five Pakistani dramas that stirred social media in 2021
Pakistani dramas have come a long way over the last decade. Quality writing, incredible direction and A-class acting has seen viewers glued to their TV screens and social media users typing away at their mobile phone keypads.
With the entertainment industry growing rapidly and access to the internet making it convenient for people to watch dramas, it has become easy to see which dramas are receiving the most attention.
We’ve listed the top five Pakistani dramas that stirred social media this year.
Chupke Chupke
The Ramzan special romantic comedy series directed by Danish Nawaz won many hearts . The light hearted drama has garnered 21+ million views on YouTube and was liked for the acting, the storyline, the chemistry and of course the lead, Ayeza Khan's wardrobe.
But not everyone felt the same.
Raqs e Bismil
The drama based on the tale of sacrifice in pursuit of true love was the talk of social media when it went on-air. The lead actors, Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan stole the show with their performances. Viewers also appreciated seeing Ashraf in a whole new look. Music enthusiasts also called Raqs e Bismil’s original soundtrack a “masterpiece.”
Parizaad
The drama portrays an emotional journey of pain, deceit and misery of its main character Parizaad, in a society that is quick to judge and fails to see how kind-hearted and selfless he is.
Parizaad was lauded by audiences for its impeccable direction and for acting by the versatile Ahmed Ali Akber.
It was also appreciated for tackling the “taboo” subject of gender fluidity in a subtle manner.
The drama has however, received criticism and was called out for blackface.
Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay
The most debated drama of the year definitely has to be Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. Viewers have a love/hate relationship with the series – loved for the A-lister cast starring Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan and Usman Mukhtar and hated for showing a vulnerable woman and glorifying toxic relationships and several other reasons.
Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay tackle the issue of mental health and social media users though that it should have a “trigger warning.”
Sinf e Ahan
The fifth drama on our list is none other than Sinf e Ahan. While the drama is only five episodes in, it has created a commotion of social media for portraying six strong, passionate and opinionated women go through military training.
The stellar all-female cast is also one of the reasons social media users love this series.
But some have pointed out a flawed approach.
This was our take on the top five Pakistani dramas of 2021, which one was you favourite?
