Pakistan records lowest Covid cases since August last year

Pakistan recorded the lowest Covid cases on Friday for the first time since August 2020 when 213 people tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the National Command and Operation Centre data.

Out of 33,862 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 231 people tested postitive for the virus across the country.

The daily Covid positivity rate also remained below 1% with 0.68% rate recorded on Friday.

As per the NCOC data, at least 11 people succumbed to the virus which took the total death toll to 28,595 since the pandemic emerged in 2020.

Currently, 1,119 Covid patients are on critical care across the country.

Meanwhile, the innoculation drive is also in full swing across the country with at least 47 million people have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus pandemic.

Vaccinations for young children between the ages of 12 and 18 have also been started across the country since September and the NCOC has authorized Chinese jabs for the children as well. Earlier, young children were being vaccinated with Pfizer doses only.

On Nov 11, NCOC chief Asad Umar tweeted more than half students between the ages of 12 and 18 have been vaccinated with at least one dose.

Talking about the nationwide vaccination drive, Umar in another tweet said the country had reached "important milestone" as 50 per cent of country's eligible population has received at least one dose of vaccine.
