Twitter rallies around Pakistan's cricket team after semi final loss
Pakistan dropped out of race for 2021 T20 world cup as Australia powered into the final and defeated team Pakistan by 5 wickets on Thursday.
After remaining undefeated in five matches, this was Pakistan’s first defeat in this year’s world cup. Pakistani fans and cricket enthusiasts all around the globe are congratulating Team Green for their commendable performance throughout the tournament.
Babar Azam & co. couldn’t win the cup, but they won many hearts.
Many believe the team defined the spirit of Pakistan cricket.
Actor Osman Khalid Butt took to Twitter and said, “Watching this XI has been like falling in love with cricket again.”
Netherlands ambassador to Pakistan Wouter Plomp also thanked team Pakistan for “winning” his “heart for the game.”
Chairman PCB Ramiz Raja lauded the team’s efforts and said, “we are proud the way you fought.”
It’s not just their on-field performance that garnered team green so much respect, their actions off the field were also thought to be praiseworthy.
The Twitter account of the Pakistan cricket board (@TheRealPCB) shared a video on November 3, where the Pakistani players surprise team Namibia in their dressing room after the match, which the former won by 45 runs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan can be seen congratulating the Namibian players for their campaign in the video.
Another video was posted by the Twitter account of the Scotland team (@CricketScotland) where the Pakistani team can be seen celebrating bowler Haris Rauf’s birthday with the Scotland players.
These videos went viral on the social media and Pakistani fans along with cricket enthusiasts worldwide admired the team for their actions.
Former Pakistan cricket team coach Waqar Younis tweeted, “You guys have not Won the World Cup but Won Hearts of every Pakistani.”
Messages of appreciation for the team are still pouring in.
