Nida Dar has become the first Pakistani cricketer, male or female, to take 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.

This feat, which took place in the West Indies on Wednesday, also makes her the first Asian woman to become part of a small group of only 6 other cricketers that have taken 100 wickets in T20Is in their careers. Of this group, 5 players are women, and one is a man.

The 34-year-old off-spinner from Gujranwala took the title in the 10th over of the series opener between Pakistan and West Indies. She took 2 wickets and gave only 15 runs in her 4 overs. Despite her efforts, Pakistan lost the match trying to chase a target of 136.

Dar commented on her record saying, “There was definitely a lot of hard work behind this milestone. I always wanted to complete 100 wickets as quickly as possible as a Pakistani bowler. I tried very hard in the previous series but unfortunately couldn't do it. This time made sure to do my best in this series against West Indies and I feel great about getting this in the very first game.”

However, she did express her disappointment at Pakistan losing. “Sadly, the game didn't end how we wanted to, and it could have been a lot better if we won. Anyway, next time I will try to play so that my performance helps Pakistan win.” She hopes that in the next couple of matches, the team will be able to redeem itself.

Dar also received praise from Wasim Khan, the CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Khan said, “This is no mean achievement and is a testimony of the hard work and dedication Nida has put in over the years.” He highlighted her influence and position in Pakistan, stating, “Over the last decade, Nida has prospered into an integral part of the national women's team and has become an inspiration for the next generation of women cricketers.” “Nida is an icon and inspiration to millions of young girls who are passionate about cricket and follow the game. In a day and age when women's cricket is flourishing and its fan base is increasing day-by-day, role models like her would do well in taking the women's game to the corners of the earth,” Dar continued.

Apart from Dar, Pakistani players that are close to this milestone include Shahid Afridi with 98 wickets, Sana Mir with 89, and Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal at 85 each.

Pakistanis utilised Twitter to celebrate Dar’s achievements.
