'Gur wali Chai' still most popular hot drink in winter

ISLAMABAD: With the advent of winter season, `gur chai` or jaggery tea is the most favorite hot drink during the season, as gur tea helps in fighting several winter-related diseases.

A report aired by a private news channel, nutritious and tasty 'Gur wali chai' attracts mostly citizens in cold weather as from November to February, the jaggery industry gets flooded with its sales.

Apart from staving off the cold, the gur tea helps in fighting several winter-related diseases, said a student Asma Ali.

Said Karim a rural women said, during winter, I never take sugar tea as gur price is cheap and 'gur-chai' scores over sugar-tea in nutrition, taste and overall vitality."

It is very common to eat 'gur' in winter and my family still love to drink gur Chai in the season, she added.

Season of jaggery has started with winter and it also very beneficial for health as well as delicious. It called a treasure of health.

A vendor who sells `gur chai' at Rawalpindi said, "This tea is basically consumed by rural persons, who are familiar with the benefits of jaggery. Its affordable price and nutritive value makes it a hit among masses".

Doctors also recommend that tea prepared with jaggery is always good than to Have tea with refined sugar, jaggery is rich source of iron, potassium, various vitamins, it helps in detoxification of liver, good for digestive system, enhances immunity, but it should b consumed in huger doses.

Medical Expert Asim Bukhari said Jaggery contains potassium and sodium, which play an important role in the maintenance of acid levels in the body as well as It makes sure that a normal level of blood pressure is properly maintained.

"If you suffer from aches and pains in your joints, eating jaggery can provide you with much-needed relief", says Dr Asim.—APP
