WEB DESK: Unfortunately, stress and anxiety have become part of human lives which isn't healthy. It is disastrous to health and a person can stay affected for longer period due to it.

It happens with many us that we feel a weird unease before performing any task whether it is major or minor. This stress seems to be uncontrollable at times but one must fight it as it is essential for mental health.

Moreover, a study in this regard was done by Hans Schroder, a doctoral student in psychology at Michigan State University (MSU) in the US. The researcher says, if any upcoming task is giving you anxiety, writing it down on a piece of paper can help a lot. Schroder further said,"Worrying takes up cognitive resources; it’s kind of like people who struggle with worry are constantly multitasking — they are doing one task and trying to monitor and suppress their worries at the same time", adding, "Our findings show that if you get these worries out of your head through expressive writing, those cognitive resources are freed up to work toward the task you’re completing and you become more efficient,” he further added."

To conduct the study, an investigation was done on college students who were chronically anxious, with the help of validated screening measure finished a computer based "flanker task" that look upon their response of accuracy and reaction times. Earlier, before the task, half of the students were asked to wrote down their feelings about task for next eight minutes. Also, the other students (in controlled condition) were asked to pen down about activities they did the day before.

Both teams performed same for speed and accuracy. The expressive writing enabled student to finish the flanker task more appropriately means they utilized less brain resources, pinpointed with electroencephalography, or EEG, in the procedure. Also, studies carried out in the past suggest that expressive writing can help people with traumatic past experiences and it also people regarding tasks in the future.

An Associate Professor at MSU, Jason Moser further says," Expressive writing makes the mind work less hard on upcoming stressful tasks, which is what worriers often get ‘burned out’ over, their worried minds working harder and hotter. This technique takes the edge off their brains so they can perform the task with a ‘cooler head'".
