A flight purser of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), identified as Muhammad Javaid, was caught while trying to smuggle over 11,00 grams of heroin to the United Kingdom.

According to the reports of a local newspaper, PIA flight purser Muhammad Javaid was deployed on flight PK-791 which was about to take off from Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Rawalpindi when the airport security found heroin, tactically hidden in his cap, shoes and mobile phone. He was instantly taken into custody by the Airport Security.

Soon after his arrest, a bag was discovered outside the International Departure Lounge of the airport, after being notified, the airport security checked the contents of the un-attended bag and found a pair of shoes with over 500 grams of heroin hidden inside the soles of those shoes.

The bag belonged to Mohammad Javaid who was supposed to take it to the flight after passing security checks.

Muhammad Javaid was caught moments before the flight was set to leave for Birmingham. He had already cleared the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) security check and airport security scanning but his secret was revealed when he reached ASF's body search checkpoint.

His cap was oddly heavy, which sparked suspicions among the body search team and they decided to inspect the flight purser's cap by tearing it apart which revealed the carefully concealed heroin inside his cap.

At this point, further checking was conducted which disclosed more secret compartments in his shoes and cell phone casing. Muhammad Javaid confessed that he was supposed to get paid Rs 1 million (10 lakh) for delivering the narcotics to United Kingdom.

Surrounded by so much conspiracy, this is the second time that a PIA employee has been found guilty of transporting illegal drugs from Benazir Bhutto International airport. It is a normal practice for the airport security staff to "half-check" members of flight crew and their belongings, which can inspire such attempts to smuggle or transport things illegally from one country to another.
