PTI announces alliance with MWM in centre, Punjab

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced forming coalition governments with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in the centre and Punjab.

The announcement was made by Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan on Tuesday after party leaders and journalists met PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala jail.

Hasan said that the decision was made following approval from Khan to form coalition governments in centre and provinces.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the former prime minister approved allying with the Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP).

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI-backed candidates contested the election independently after the Supreme Court stripped the party of its election symbol.

However, the independent elected representatives are required to join a political party within three days of the election under the Election Act, 2017.

The PTI-backed members of national and provincial assemblies will not be entitled to reserved seats until they join a political party having an election symbol.

The reserved seats will be allotted to the party, independent MNAs and MPAs join after the elections.
