Tarbela Dam had reached its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet on Wednesday, following recent monsoon rains and increased flood inflows from upper districts, dam authorities said.

The water level at the dam was recorded at 1,550 feet, its full capacity, while its dead level is 1,402 feet, the dam administration said.

Water inflow was recorded at 225,500 cusecs, while outflow stood at 224,700 cusecs, as recent rains and floodwater from upstream areas continued to increase inflows.

All 17 power-generating units at Tarbela Dam are operational, producing 4,457 megawatts of electricity. The dam has a total generation capacity of 4,888 megawatts.

Authorities issued an alert and increased police patrols around waterways in Haripur, Tarbela Dam and the major canals of Ghazi-Barotha. The district administration, police and Rescue 1122 have also been placed on alert.

Residents living near waterways were advised to keep away from the water and avoid areas with strong currents. Mosque announcements were also made to warn citizens about the situation.

Officials urged the public to take precautionary measures and avoid approaching fast-flowing water or waterways.
