US to shut Peshawar consulate in phases, shifts operations to Islamabad
1 min readThe US State Department has announced the phased closure of the US Consulate General in Peshawar, citing the safety of diplomatic staff and effective use of resources.
According to the statement, all diplomatic matters related to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now be handled through the US Embassy in Islamabad, while the American presence in Peshawar will be reduced.
The State Department said that despite the move, US policy priorities in Pakistan will remain unchanged, with continued efforts to promote bilateral relations.
It added that engagement with the government and people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue through various means, focusing on economic cooperation, regional security and mutual interests.
The statement also said the US Mission in Pakistan will remain active through its diplomatic offices in Karachi and Lahore, alongside Islamabad, to strengthen ties between the two countries.
