Punjab government orders early shop closures in week-long austerity drive
1 min readThe Punjab government has ordered shops to close at 8 pm for one week as part of an austerity campaign aimed at conserving resources and reducing unnecessary expenses, according to an official notification.
Hotels and restaurants will close at 10 pm, although takeaway services will remain unaffected, the notification said. Wedding halls will also shut at 10 pm, and ceremonies at homes must conclude by the same time.
Petrol pumps and CNG stations have been exempted from the restrictions, along with tandoors, bakeries and dairy shops. Medical stores and pharmacies will also remain open without limitations.

The government urged the public to comply with the measures to help ensure the success of the campaign.
