Jailed PTI leaders appeal to CJ over Imran Khan’s treatment
2 min readLeaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), currently incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail, have appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the alleged obstacles hindering party founder Imran Khan’s eye treatment.
The incarcerated PTI leaders, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry and Umar Sarfraz Cheema, have issued a joint statement through their lawyer Mudassir Omar.
The statement raised concerns over the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan, highlighting that he has been denied access to his personal doctor and that his family has not been informed about his health on time.
In their statement, the PTI leaders pointed out that in 2019, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted to Services Hospital due to a drop in his platelet count.
Nawaz’s personal physician, Dr Adnan, was allowed to attend all medical board meetings, and his family and legal advisers had full access to him.
In contrast, they argued that Imran Khan, who had served as the country’s prime minister, has faced obstacles at every level in seeking proper medical treatment.
The statement criticised the treatment of Imran Khan, claiming that his rights to proper medical care have been violated.
They also highlighted that his family, lawyer, and personal doctor have been denied access to him.
The PTI leaders stressed that these actions were a breach of his fundamental rights and called for the Supreme Court to take immediate notice.
The PTI leaders compared the treatment of Imran Khan to that of Nawaz Sharif, stating that the government had provided him with the best medical facilities, including allowing his personal doctor to participate in medical board meetings.
They also noted that Nawaz Sharif was granted permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
The statement described the government’s handling of Imran Khan’s medical treatment as opaque and secretive, asserting that basic healthcare rights are being violated.
The PTI leaders also accused the government of creating obstacles to the party founder’s treatment and expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency in the treatment process.
The PTI leaders’ statement called on the Supreme Court to intervene, emphasising that the government should be ashamed of its treatment of the former prime minister and that such actions were unacceptable.
The incarcerated leaders urged the chief justice to take notice and ensure that Imran Khan receives the medical treatment and care he is entitled to, with proper access for his family and legal representatives.
