TTAP leaders announce that the opposition alliance will stage a sit-in outside Parliament House from Friday.

The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) on Thursday announced that it will stage a sit-in outside Parliament House from Friday, demanding access to jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and assurances of his complete medical treatment.

The decision was taken during a consultative meeting of the TTAP in Islamabad. Senior leaders of opposition parties attended the session, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was specially invited by Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

Participants included PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Opposition Leader in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and several other lawmakers.

Sources said the meeting focused on the health condition of Imran Khan and the opposition’s future course of action.

It was decided that a sit-in would begin after Friday prayers at the main gate of Parliament House and would continue until party leaders are allowed to meet Imran Khan and his treatment is completed.

According to sources, PTI’s central leadership will lead the protest. All members of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies, along with senators and party ticket holders, have been directed to reach Islamabad.

PTI leader Junaid Akbar has also instructed lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to participate in the protest at D-Chowk.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai said in a post on X that a peaceful sit-in would begin outside Parliament on Friday.

He said the alliance would present its demands during the protest and would continue until they were accepted.

He warned that the government would be responsible for any untoward incident. He added that jail authorities and officials allegedly involved in misconduct should have been presented before Parliament, urging all lawmakers to commit to the protest.

The move follows the emergence of a report on facilities provided to Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, in which he claimed that vision in his right eye had been reduced to 15 per cent.

A report submitted to the Supreme Court called for an immediate eye examination and recommended treatment by his personal doctors, while also allowing for assessment by specialist physicians.

Earlier, TTAP had announced that the sit-in would be held in response to the health concerns raised in court, prompting a strong reaction from PTI leadership.
