The resignation of Sardar Akhtar Mengal, head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), from the National Assembly has been formally accepted, sources said on Wednesday.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq approved Mengal’s resignation after confirming it with the lawmaker.

Mengal was elected from NA-256 Khuzdar.

Mengal had originally submitted his resignation on September 3, 2024, which has now been accepted after nearly 17 months.

The National Assembly Secretariat stated that Mengal’s resignation has been considered effective from September 3, 2024, and he will be required to return any salaries and perks received after that date.
