‘A heart-wrenching tragedy’: Health minister visits blast victims
2 min readFederal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic in Islamabad on Saturday to inquire after those injured in the Islamabad blast and to review the medical facilities being provided to the victims.
Speaking to the media during his visit, the health minister termed the incident “deeply tragic and heart-wrenching” and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
He prayed for the martyrs and for the swift recovery of the injured.
Mustafa Kamal said that immediately after the incident, PIMS and Polyclinic hospitals were placed on high alert, while senior officials of the Ministry of Health have been monitoring the situation continuously.
According to the minister, a total of 149 cases were brought to PIMS, including 28 bodies.
Of the 121 injured patients currently under treatment at PIMS, 25 are in critical condition, the minister said.
He added that four bodies and 13 injured individuals were shifted to Polyclinic Hospital, where four of the injured remain in critical condition.
The health minister said that 10 operation theatres at PIMS are fully operational, with doctors, surgeons, and paramedical staff present in full strength.
He stated that 20 major surgeries have already been completed, while four to six more operations are currently underway.
Mustafa Kamal assured that there is no shortage of blood, medicines, doctors, or surgical staff, adding that more than 60 units of blood have been transfused to the injured.
He confirmed that no fatalities have occurred among the patients who were brought to the hospitals alive.
