Karachi has reported its first rabies death of the year on Tuesday, with an eight-year-old girl succumbing to the infection.

The girl, from the Jhol area in Sanghar, was bitten by a stray dog about a month and a half ago.

She did not receive the rabies vaccine after the bite.

Authorities say that more than 3,000 cases of dog bites have been reported in Karachi this month alone.
