The daughter of a senior Iranian official is working as a physician in the United States, according to records, drawing attention to a long-standing contradiction between Tehran’s anti-US rhetoric and the personal choices of its leaders.

Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani, daughter of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani, has been living and working in the United States for several years, according to a report in Newsweek.

A profile on Mesothelioma.net lists her as a haematologist and medical oncologist at Emory University Hospital’s Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta.

Her clinical focus includes thoracic oncology, treating lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and thymic tumours.

She is also an assistant professor in the Department of Haematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.

Ardeshir-Larijani earned her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences before completing a residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University.

She later undertook a haematology and oncology fellowship at Indiana University, where she also received a master’s degree in clinical research.

Her father, Ali Larijani, has previously served as speaker of Iran’s parliament and as a chief nuclear negotiator before becoming secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

He has repeatedly described the United States as a global threat, echoing Iran’s official stance, which frequently labels Washington the “Great Satan.”

The revelation has renewed scrutiny of Iranian officials whose families live or study in Western countries, despite the regime’s hostile posture toward the US.

Several children of senior Iranian leaders have attended American universities, including the son of former foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran’s Guardian Council previously disqualified Ali Larijani from political candidacy, citing violations of an SNSC ban restricting officials’ family members from living or travelling in countries deemed hostile.
