Punjab Chief Minister approves division of Lahore into two districts

Division will separate deputy commissioners, police and municipal systems, according to sources

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz gave in-principle approval to the major decision to divide Lahore into two districts on Wednesday.

According to sources, it has been decided to start administrative restructuring of Lahore after Basant, which aims to reduce the growing administrative pressure and make urban governance effective.

Sources say that dividing Lahore into two parts will separate deputy commissioners, police administration and municipal systems, which will help in the immediate redressal of traffic, encroachments, local government issues and public complaints.

The goal has been set to make service delivery fast, effective and closer to the people under the new administrative setup.

CM instructed that the relevant departments have been ordered to immediately complete preparations, while a follow-up meeting has also been called on February 9 regarding the division of Lahore, according to sources.

Officials say that the division of Lahore is being touted as a major step in urban governance reforms and that the decision has been taken not on any political grounds but purely out of administrative necessity.

The creation of two districts will enable improvement in administrative matters, timely resolution of public grievances and better governance.
