Karachi to receive rain tomorrow as cold wave set to intensify from Friday
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in Karachi on Thursday, followed by a marked increase in cold conditions from Friday as a new weather system moves across the region.
Deputy Director PMD Anjum Nazir Zaigham said a western weather system will begin affecting Balochistan from late Wednesday night and is expected to enter western parts of Sindh on Thursday.
“The system will start influencing Balochistan tonight and will move into western Sindh tomorrow,” Zaigham said, adding that Karachi is also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Thursday.
According to the Met Office, the new spell of westerly winds is currently affecting the upper parts of the country. As the system strengthens, northern mountainous areas of Balochistan are expected to receive significant snowfall.
Rain and snowfall are also likely in Quetta and its surrounding areas, while western districts of Sindh may experience rainfall as the system progresses eastward.
The PMD warned that Karachi will come under the grip of a cold wave from Friday, with a noticeable drop in temperatures over the next two to four days.
“Temperatures are expected to fall significantly, and there is a possibility that Karachi’s mercury may again dip into single digits,” the Met Office said.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautionary measures as colder conditions intensify, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.
