Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated a province-wide anti-polio campaign that will continue till December 21, with a target to vaccinate more than 10.6 million children.

The chief minister formally launched the campaign by administering oral polio vaccine to children at a centre set up at the Old Haji Camp in Karachi.

Addressing the ceremony, he said eliminating polio remains one of the Sindh government’s top priorities.

Murad Ali Shah said the campaign is being conducted across 30 districts and 1,345 union councils.

More than 80,000 frontline polio workers have been deployed, while over 21,000 security personnel, including 400 female constables, would protect vaccination teams.

He said Sindh has a strong monitoring system to ensure early detection of the poliovirus.

According to the chief minister, polio cases were reported this year in six districts of the province, with the most recent case identified in August 2025 in the Badin district.

The chief minister said testing of environmental samples is being used for the timely identification of the poliovirus.

He paid tribute to frontline polio workers, calling them national heroes, and appealed to parents to ensure their children receive polio drops.

Murad Ali Shah also stressed that the role of the media is crucial in efforts to eradicate polio from the province.
