Bilawal opposes further constitutional amendments, says two reforms enough
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday opposed any further constitutional amendments, saying one parliament has already passed two reforms and the constitution should not be repeatedly changed.
Speaking to senior journalists at the Governor House in Lahore, Bilawal ruled out any thought of dividing Punjab.
He added that new provinces could only be considered where there is consensus.
“Before creating 20 new provinces, we should implement the earlier agreement to form South Punjab province,” he said.
On a question about becoming prime minister amid the current political situation, Bilawal gestured by touching his ears and said, “If the people vote for me, I will definitely become prime minister.”
He stressed that political allies need space to operate and that progress in politics requires compromise and dialogue.
Bilawal also highlighted differences in governance between Punjab and Sindh, noting that a new local government law was introduced in Punjab.
“If I had done the same in Sindh, people would have opposed it. They cannot digest my presence in Punjab. I tell them to come to Sindh,” he said.
“They cannot digest my presence in Punjab, I tell them to come to Sindh. I also say that they should appoint their own governor in Sindh, who has not been appointed yet.”
Bilawal also praised Punjab Governor Salim Haider and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for their performance, saying his party would not take ministerial positions in Punjab.
He urged politicians to focus on consensus-building rather than creating conflict over provincial matters.
