PML-N strengthens grip in Punjab with six-seat gain in by-elections
Following its landslide victory in Sunday’s by-elections, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) strengthened its position in the Punjab Assembly.
In the 371-member house, the PML-N increased its tally by six seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) gained one seat.
After the latest results, PML-N now holds 235 seats and remains the largest party in the Punjab Assembly.
The PPP’s strength has increased to 17 seats, while the number of PTI-backed members stands at 97.
Other parties in the house include Pakistan Muslim League-Q with 11 seats, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party with seven, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen with one, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan one, and Muslim League Zia one seat.
It is noted that Mian Aslam Iqbal, who was declared victorious from Lahore in the 2024 general election on a PPP ticket, has not yet taken the oath.
