A wave of international condemnation has followed the release of an AI-generated video titled “Next Year in Jerusalem,” which depicts the bombing of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its replacement with a so-called Third Temple.

The video has been circulating on Israel extremiest platforms and has raised alarms among Palestinian officials regarding the escalating incitement from far-right Israeli settler groups advocating for the mosque’s destruction.

Palestine’s Foreign Ministry condemned the video as a “systematic provocation” aimed at intensifying attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in the region.

The ministry criticized Israel’s far-right leadership for feeling “emboldened” to pursue its agenda of Judaization and colonialism, particularly in light of the weak international response to ongoing violence, especially in Gaza.

The ministry called on the international community and UN bodies to take this incitement seriously and to implement legal measures under international law to halt Israel’s unilateral actions against Palestinians.

While Israeli officials maintain that the status quo at Al-Aqsa is preserved, the Islamic Waqf in Jerusalem has rejected this assertion, stating that repeated violations signify an unprecedented breach of the site’s historical and religious status.

Far-right groups have previously called for mass incursions into the Al-Aqsa compound during the Jewish Passover holiday, which began on April 20.

Where is Al Aqsa mosque and why is it so important in Islam?

Since 2003, Israeli authorities have permitted settlers to enter the compound nearly every day.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and unilaterally annexed the city in 1980, a move that remains unrecognized by the international community.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered the third-holiest site in Islam, while Jews refer to the area as the Temple Mount, believing it to be the location of two ancient Jewish temples.
