Pakistan landslides kill Thai tourist, injure three others
A female tourist from Thailand lost her life and three others were injured in separate incidents of landslides in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan. The victims were part of a group of foreign tourists exploring the region.
The deadly incident occurred in the Ghwari area of Skardu, where a sudden landslide struck a group of tourists. One Thai woman was killed on the spot, while three others sustained injuries. All the victims were traveling in a vehicle when the landslide struck.
Authorities confirmed that a second landslide was reported in the Chamacho area, though no casualties were reported in that incident.
Rescue teams were dispatched promptly to the affected areas, and the injured tourists were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the incidents, local authorities have advised both residents and tourists to exercise caution, especially in mountainous and landslide-prone areas. Unstable weather and recent snowmelt are believed to have contributed to the weakening of slopes in the region.
Skardu remains a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists, particularly in the spring and summer seasons.
