PMD issues heatwave alert for Karachi amid rising temperatures
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi as temperatures begin to rise steadily.
Authorities have urged citizens to adopt necessary precautions in response to the expected weather conditions.
Meteorologists have forecasted an increase of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in Karachi’s temperature starting today, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
At present, the city is experiencing a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius under partly cloudy skies, accompanied by intermittent strong winds.
Winds are currently blowing from the west at a speed of 17 km/h. However, starting tomorrow, sea breezes are expected to cease, which will likely result in a noticeable surge in temperature.
The PMD has predicted that a heatwave may affect Karachi from April 20 to April 23, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Forecasters expect the weather to remain extremely hot and dry during this period, with nighttime temperatures also staying above seasonal norms.
Officials anticipate a temperature rise of 4 degrees Celsius to 6 degrees Celsius beginning tomorrow. During the daytime, humidity levels are expected to range between 40% and 50%.
The PMD has advised residents to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, limit outdoor activities during peak hours, and increase their water intake to prevent heat-related health issues.
