In one of the deadliest assaults since the US intensified its military campaign in Yemen, airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Ras Isa oil port have killed at least 74 people and wounded 171, according to the group’s Health Ministry.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes aimed to disrupt the Houthis’ fuel supply, a critical revenue source for the Iran-backed group.

Eyewitnesses reported that the initial strikes occurred during working hours, catching many port employees and truck drivers off guard.

In retaliation, the Houthis launched missile attacks targeting military sites in Israel and two US aircraft carriers.

The Ras Isa port is vital for Yemen’s economy and humanitarian aid, with approximately 70% of imports and 80% of aid passing through it and nearby ports.

This escalation marks a significant intensification of US military operations in the region since President Donald Trump resumed office in January.
