Pakistan continues deporting undocumented Afghan nationals, nearly 950,000 sent back
The government of Pakistan has continued its large-scale deportation drive against undocumented Afghan nationals residing illegally across the country.
According to immigration authorities, a total of 2,418 undocumented Afghan nationals were deported via the Torkham border crossing on Sunday alone.
On April 13, more than 13,000 Afghan nationals were repatriated, bringing the total number of undocumented Afghans who have left Pakistan to 948,870. The government has ensured that those returning are provided with adequate food, healthcare, and other essential facilities.
Sources reported that 452 Afghan families comprising 2,418 individuals arrived at the Landi Kotal transit camp, where they underwent the necessary legal procedures before being deported through the Torkham border.
Interior Minister orders immediate blocking of passports for deportees
Since April 1, a total of 35,676 undocumented Afghans have been deported as part of this ongoing effort. The Pakistani government is focusing on ensuring a respectful and orderly return of all illegal foreign residents, including Afghan Citizen Card holders. Officials have emphasized that no mistreatment of returning individuals will be tolerated.
On a parallel front, the Punjab Police, under the directive of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, is actively supporting the deportation campaign. So far, more than 10,136 undocumented foreigners have been shifted to holding centers, with 560 individuals currently at holding points.
Punjab Police spokesperson stated that 5 holding centers in Lahore and 46 across the province have been established to facilitate the process. IG Punjab reiterated that Pakistan is implementing the deportation policy by international legal standards, similar to other countries.
The federal government and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the campaign to ensure its effectiveness. Authorities have maintained high security and confirmed that human rights considerations are being strictly observed throughout the process.
