The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a directive to the Department of Education in response to rising temperatures and concerns over heatwaves.

It included recommendations to modify school hours and potentially announce early summer vacations.

The communication, sent to commissioners and deputy commissioners throughout the province, emphasizes the need to adjust school schedules to mitigate the impact of extreme heat.

The officials have called for the early commencement of summer vacations when temperatures become excessively high.

PDMA has instructed that schools and colleges ensure the continuous availability of cold and clean drinking water and encouraged students to wear light, loose-fitting clothing.

Furthermore, the guidelines impose an immediate ban on the following:

  • outdoor activities
  • ensure proper ventilation in classrooms
  • maintain functional fans and cooling systems

To enhance safety, first aid counters are to be established in schools, staffed with trained personnel ready to respond to any heat-related emergencies.
